Hard to believe, but there was once a time when space travel and the thought of a human being walking on the moon was unbelievable. Thanks to technology, "what if?" questions are being answered with solutions. Volvo Cars is an example of this commitment to technology, asking, "what if?" with its recent press conference where it was revealed the Volvo brand plans to put 100 people behind the wheels of 100 Volvo cars in 2017 that self-drive.
You read that correctly- in 2017, 100 people will sit behind the wheel of a Volvo model in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the vehicles Autopilot system will take over every aspect of driving in autonomous mode.
Dr. Erik Coelingh, technical specialist at Volvo Cars, says building a self-driving system for customers is relatively easy. "You have to design and produce a complete system that will be safe, robust and affordable for ordinary customers,” says Coelingh.
This is news that certainly does not catch our team at Volvo Marin by surprise, but it does excite us. As we pass the time until 2017, we'll keep busy with our extensive new Volvo car inventory. Why don't you swing by our dealership in Madera to check them out today?
