We know Volvo is really into safety. It's sort of our thing. To that end, Volvo conducts hundreds of crash tests for every new car it makes.
Yet, it's impractical to crash a car every single time a safety engineer thinks up a new feature. That's why Volvo helped create a giant robot arm that can simulate the conditions of an off-road crash.
By going through the same movements, at the same speeds as a crashing car, Volvo can quickly and easily test new safety features on the fly before doing a full test on a real car.
It's also useful for making Volvo employees dizzy!
