The seat that reduces whiplash risk by half

Our Whiplash Protection System, WHIPS, combines unique robust head restraint with clever seat design to protect both head and spine. With WHIPS, both men and women are now protected from whiplash. 

 

An intelligent safety shield 

Because of chest anatomy and strength, women are most likely to have chest injury during car crash. However, using Volvo's SIPS or Side Impact Protection System that has intelligent structure, risk of chest injuries is reduced by 50% on all passengers.

 

Protection for every head

Women, being generally shorter than men, need additional protection. Because of the height, women tend to drive closer to the steering wheel and here is where our Inflatable Curtain is vital. Our Inflatable Curtain airbag inflates 1/25 second which reduces head injuries by 75%. This is the first of its kind to protect both front and rear passengers.

 

The most effective lifesaver

Volvo is confident with the quality of our seatbelts, having saved more than 1 million lives. But now, Volvo is taking a step further with developing seatbelts that cater to the unique needs of a pregnant passenger.

Protection for your precious ones

           

Since 1964, we have been perfecting our rearward-facing child seats. We desire nothing but utmost protection for our children plus the comfort of traveling. We do tests based on real-life traffic situations to comprehend how a child behaves and reacts in a car environment. Based on our gathered data and all the improvements we made with our designs, we recommend that children up to 4 years old must be seated facing rearwards.

           

Volvo is not just about protecting your children but also about providing a holistic traveling experience. Our child seats are made of breathable 80% natural wool fibers. Traveling will never be as comfortable and as fun with these Volvo child seats!

The IntelliSafe

           

Volvo raised the bar in vehicular safety since 1970s, but now passenger protection is in new heights as Volvo introduce the IntelliSafe. We utilized high technology to even prevent accidents from happening. With our years of innovations, we are pleased to give you IntelliSafe Standard, IntelliSafe Surround, and IntelliSafe Assist.  

 

 

 
IntelliSafe Standard

Included in IntelliSafe Standard is our City Safety. This new addition protects you from external dangers as it uses radar and camera technology to spot potential threats such as close encounters with other vehicles, pedestrians, or large animals. City Safety even notifies you about the forthcoming danger, and if you do not respond in time, it can even automatically apply the brakes to prevent collision.

 

City Safety also has amazing features such as Steering Support to steer you away from imminent danger as immediate as possible. With Slippery Road and Hazard Light Alert Features, Volvo cars connect and communicate with other cars to prevent and mitigate accidents.

 

In case of unavoidable collision, Volvo still got you protected.

 

Our Safety Cage, made from hot-formed high strength steel, will keep the occupant space intact. This technology made Volvo cars stronger than ever.
Furthermore, our airbags are located in strategic places to protect you. Our fast-reacting Inflatable Curtains are also standard in Volvo cars.

 

Our seats are made of different grades of steel that has energy-absorbing functionality which helps reduce risk of spine injury

With our Run-off Road Protection feature, our seats mechanically deform to adapt to impact. This feature, which detects run-off road scenario, tightens seat belt to protect the occupant in case such circumstance happen.

 

Lastly, we still have the three-point safety belts which are first introduced by Volvo cars. We also pioneered safety belts in rear and middle seats. Three-point safety belts are now one of the most important inventions that safeguards human life.

 

 

 

 
IntelliSafe Surround
 
This IntelliSafe feature utilizes high technology to enhance your driving. With the steering assist and brake support of Safety 360, you will never be as confident in driving as this!

 

Included in IntelliSafe Surround is BLIS or the Blind Spot Information which uses radar technology to notify you of the presence of approaching cars from all directions. This awareness makes you confident in changing lanes even in highways. When a vehicle approaches you from a certain direction, a light in the door mirror illuminates to warn you. This light stays lit until your blind spots are clear. If you desire to change lane and a vehicle is approaching, the light flashes to warn you and prevent critical encounters. BLIS also comes with steer assist.

 

IntelliSafe Surround comes in with Cross Traffic Alert to protect you from other road users behind you while you are reversing or trying to park. Volvo car bumpers are equipped with radar that can scan up to 30 meters of the left and right rear sides. The Volvo car alerts you by a sound either from left or right speaker depending on the location of the hazard. The center display also shows a visual warning.  

Another advancement brought by IntelliSafe Surround is the Rear Collision Warning. This is a warning system that alerts the driver of the approaching vehicle by flashing the Volvo car's hazard lights intensely. In case of an imminent collision, the Rear Collision Warning system tensions the frontal safety seat belts to reduce the collision impact. Another great innovation is that our seatbelts react with potential danger. If there is a collision threat, our seatbelts have electrical reversible retractors that hold the passenger in a safe position. Belt tension will eventually be released if the crash is avoided.

 

 

 
IntelliSafe Assist
 
Volvo cars are more intelligent than ever with IntelliSafe Assist. With this innovation, all you need to care about is your driving enjoyment and travel experience. IntelliSafe Assist features Pilot Assist which effortlessly collaborates with the driver. The driver, while still in control, is assisted by this system that can enhance speed and can keep distance to give you a good position in lanes and a consistent driving experience. For enhanced protection, Pilot Assist provides improved emergency steering and braking. For the EU and US markets, Volvo cars have an electronic horizon function which increases accuracy and performance in curves.  Meanwhile in Western European market, Curve Speed Adaptation is available to enhance performance in curves by tapping into map data.

 

IntelliSafe Assist also provides you with Adaptive Cruise Control which lets you choose speed and time gap as safety margins to the vehicle ahead. The Volvo car adapts to the speed of the vehicle in front and if the roads are clear, the Volvo car resumes to your chosen speed. This feature gives you a more relaxed driving experience, reducing even removing driving strains. However, if the Adaptive Cruise Control is deactivated, the distance alert function steps in and warns you if the vehicle in front comes too close. This feature is only available in Volvo cars with HUD or Head-Up Display.
