For all the EV drivers out there worried if the charge is just not enough for a long trip, this news is of particular importance to you. Volvo is in the works of solving your fear of losing juice on the road and getting stuck in the middle of nowhere. The automaker's newest prototype is an ingenious mobile charging system.

Known as "Pure Tension", the mobile system is in the form of a collapsible solar charging pavilion which will make its first appearance in Rome on September 15. It was created by Synthesis Design + Architecture, Buro Happold and Fabric Image, and, dare we say, it looks large and in "charge." Pure Tension is, literally, a tensioned DHPE mesh skin which has the photovoltaic panels in a carbon frame.

That being said, it's capable of folding up nicely into a bag where it will fit into the trunk of a V60 Plug-In Hybrid.

The design has already proven to turn heads since it took first place in the Switch to Pure Volvo Pavilon Design Competition, beating 150 others worldwide. It may only be a concept for now (it is just at the design stage; they can't tell us just yet how much electricity Pure Tension could produce), but we can only imagine what the future of the auto industry will be like if this idea comes to life.
