The Future is Electric
Volvo Cars is taking a bold lead with electrification in the auto industry. As the first major premium car brand to commit to a hybrid or full-electric powertrain for all our models, we aim to drive the automotive sector forward, improving the quality of the air in our cities and increase our success as a business.

50% of Volvo Cars' sales volume to be fully electric by 2025.

1 million
Volvo Cars has committed to putting one million electrified cars on the road by 2025.
Every new Volvo car launched from 2019 onwards will have an electric motor. This ambitious commitment shows that at Volvo Cars we dare to take the lead and embrace a cleaner mobility. It underlines our aim to reduce the environmental impact of our products, and to improve air quality in our cities. Most of all, it shows that we listen to our customers and their needs.
This year we take the next step towards electrifying our range by launching our first ever fully electric car: the XC40 Recharge. It represents a true milestone for Volvo Cars and is our first in a family of fully electric Volvos. Over the next 5 years, we will launch a fully electric car every year as we aim to make all-electric cars 50 percent of global sales by 2025, with the rest hybrids. Recharge will be the overarching name for all Volvos with a fully electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Electrified alternatives
Volvo Cars will introduce a range of electrified cars over the coming years, and there will be something for everyone. The latest generation of Volvos has been designed from the outset for electrification and the choices will include fully electric cars and plug-in hybrid models, as well as new mild-hybrid models.
Our first fully electric car, the XC40 Recharge was launched earlier this year and will be followed by a range of fully electric cars in the coming years. These cars will be Volvo models as well as high performance models from Polestar, Volvo Cars' performance brand.

Every model in Volvo Cars' line-up is also available as a petrol plug-in hybrid variant, from the small XC40 SUV via the 60 series cars to the company's flagship, the large XC90 SUV. Volvo Cars is the only car maker to offer plug-in variant on every model in its line-up.
The mild hybrid configurations deliver a better every day driving experience while reducing fuel consumption and emissions by up to 15 percent.
Taken together this means that, in future, there will be no Volvo cars without an electric motor. And to make sure we have plenty of batteries to power all those electrified Volvos, we have signed large supply deals with LG Chem and CATL, two of the world's leading lithium battery makers.

Our climate plan
Volvo Cars has one of the most ambitious climate plans in the car industry. We aim to reduce our CO2 emissions per car by 40 percent between now and 2025, a first tangible step towards our long-term goal of becoming climate neutral by 2040. We realize that electrification alone is not enough, and so our climate ambitions go beyond radically reducing tailpipe emissions through all-out electrification. We will also tackle carbon emissions in our manufacturing network, our wider operations, our supply chain and through our approach to recycling and reuse of materials.

Our code - how we act
At Volvo Cars, it's not just about what we do, bur how we do it. Consideration for others is paramount and our strict code of conduct ensures that we conduct business in an ethical and responsible way.

Omtanke - to think again
As a human-centric car company, we are a brand for people who care about other people and the world in which we live.
This is at the core of our business and of our approach to sustainability. Our commitment is about re-thinking sustainability, and goes beyond our operations and our cars, and into society.  It makes us think again every time we make decisions that affect the world and the lives of people.
There is a Swedish word that means "caring" and "consideration", but also importantly "to think again".
The word is "Omtanke" and summarizes our way of protecting what's important to you. Omtanke is the name of our program of sustainability commitments
Volvo's Technology and Human Innovation

  We do things differently
We have always put people first at Volvo Cars. We do this with a clear focus on these three key innovation areas. we believe that technology should set us free - not restrict us.

We are redefining personal mobility
We want to provide freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way. We do this by putting your needs first - using the best available technology to serve you, inventing new technology where none already exists and combining technologies to deliver new experiences.

We are committed to pursuing the following visions:

No one should be seriously injured or killed by a new Volvo car by 2020.
We want to give back one week of quality time per year through a new Volvo car by 2025.
Around 50 percent of the cars we produce and sell will be electric by 2025.
At Volvo Cars, we innovate for a better life. Our focus is you and your world.
