The North American International Auto Show provided an American venue for our favorite Swedish automaker to debut their new Volvo Concept XC Coupe. The crowd was likely impressed and we know that the industry types were wowed as they bestowed two distinguished awards upon the stylish prototype.
The XC Coupe came away from the EyesOn Design ceremony with the Best Concept Car award and a nod for the Best use of Color, Graphics and Materials. These wins are definitely significant as the panel of judges was populated by the absolute best possible critics -- auto designers from around the industry.
In accepting the accolades Thomas Ingenlath, senior vice president design at Volvo Cars remarked, "I’m honored and very happy of course. This is very encouraging and it shows that Volvo’s new design direction is appreciated not only by the general public and the press, but also by the leading people in the car design business. And Volvo Cars has only just started its exciting new journey with a brand new design language."1
That new design language bit brings us to our next point. The concept is likely to inspire the next generation of the XC90, which we've recently learned will arrive at our Corte Madera, CA Volvo dealership in the spring of 2015.
It might be a while to wait. However, we've got the
current Volvo XC90
on-hand to tide you over until then. Feel free to visit our showroom to give it
a once-over or even to arrange a test drive with our Volvo Marin sales
staff. We'll be sure to provide you with more news about the next generation as it becomes available.
