At Swedish automaker Volvo, safety is paramount. That's why one of the first pieces of news we've received about the next-generation XC90 was that its safety features would be top of the line. Of course, that doesn't just extend to the 2015 iteration we should see sometime next year, but to the 2014 model, as well.

On the surface, Volvo hasn't really updated the XC90 too much since it was introduced in 2002, and in a lot of ways, it didn't have to. The car's look was timeless, and its attention to detail on the safety end of things ensured it would be a reliable vehicle for some time to come.

Case and point: last year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety added the "moderate overlap" crash test to its gauntlet. While that left automakers around the world scampering to accommodate, Volvo didn't have to. When it submitted the XC90 to the IIHS for testing, it got the top score: the Top Safety Pick +.

In order to receive this honor, a car must perform nominally--that is to say, "Good" or "Acceptable"--in rollover, and frontal, side, and rear impact tests, and no less than "Good" on the moderate overlap test. It did, and we're pleased to say that Volvo's crowning jewel is just as safe as ever!

While we anticipate the 2015 XC90 here at Volvo Marin, we think you'll also love what the 2014 iteration has to offer. Stop by our dealership in Corte Madera, CA and see what this SUV and the rest of our new Volvo lineup has to offer you and yours this holiday season.
