The development of eco-friendly vehicles has been the common goal for a number of automaker's over the last few years. With this comes the development of efficient charging technology as well. This is why Volvo has recently conducted a study to try out a new wireless charging system, and we are excited to share with you the successful results.
By using inductive charging, the automaker performed the experiment on the electric version of its Volvo C30 model. The charging station and the vehicle were enhanced with induction coils. Then electromagnetic waves were used to generate the energy needed to recharge the vehicle. Volvo was thrilled to have the process completed in about two and a half hours using this efficient system.
Lennart Stegland, Vice President, Electric Propulsion System at Volvo Car Group, comments on the process, explaining, "Inductive charging has great potential. Cordless technology is a comfortable and effective way to conveniently transfer energy. The study also indicates that it is safe."1
Moving forward, Volvo plans to continue working closely with the German engineering company Siemens, to focus on the development of wireless-charging systems and electric powertrains. We have a feeling there will be exciting things to come from the automaker in the future, so be sure to continue following our blog to learn more.
In the meantime, we encourage you to visit Volvo Marin conveniently located in Corte Madera, CA to check out what the rest of the new Volvo lineup has to offer. We'd be happy to schedule a test drive with the vehicle that catches your eye and answer any questions you may have regarding specs and features. We look forward to your visit!
